He or she submits nominations for ministerial posts to the "Presidente della Repubblica", who then appoints them if approved. The Presidente del Consiglio is appointed by the "Presidente della Repubblica", in consultation with the leaders of the parliamentary parties, former heads of state, the "Presidente della Camera" and the "Presidente del Senato". The Presidente della Repubblica is the head of state. He or she must be an Italian citizen of at least 50 years of age, and is elected by Parliament and by three delegates from each of the Italian regions.
